Since allowing people to add Google+ Pages to their listings in UK Small Business Directory and add their business to our Google+ Directory the one thing that really stands out for us is just how few people know how to set up Google+ Pages for Business properly.
The most common problems we see when people set up Google+ Listings are;
1. People not making their Google+ Pages public
2. People adding Google+ Profiles and not Google+ Pages
3. People not completing their About Page
4. People not linking their Google+ Page with their website
With this in mind we have produced full instructions on how to set up a Google Plus Business Page and optimise it to gain the full advantage.
These instructions talk about How to create a Google+ Page, Why and when to use locate, how to make your page fully visible, how to connect, the importance of profile, page, product, service, when not to add images to posts, what to do before posting a link, when to post on Google+ and more

I have a google page, but not sure if it as been changed into a google + business page. Aslo I seem to have been removed from several google business listings when i regularly update and add information.
You’re absolutely right. Whenever we mention G+ to any of our clients they run away scared.
We’ll be encouraging some of our clients to visit the directory, nice idea.
I think Google messed up big time with Google+ Pages for business.
The way it is integrated so much with Google+ Profiles just creates too much confusion and is a joke.
I think they just rushed Pages out far too soon and should have had a completely different section rather than combining the 2.
Ask a small business owner about their Google+ Page and most haven’t a clue, even worse, a lot of those who do say they have a Page give you a link to a Profile rather than a Page when you ask for it.
Uptake is very low too, see my stats here – http://www.v1seo.co.uk/11/google-stats-for-small-business/ even worse than those Stats though is when you see just how inactive most Google+ Pages are, try clicking on some of the businesses Google+ Pages here – http://www.uksmallbusinessdirectory.co.uk/gplus-directory.asp and count yourself lucky if you find any active or good ones.
How Google messed this up is beyond me, it strikes me they were just interested in the numbers game, get as many people using a Google+ Page as quick as possible with no thought about whether businesses used them or not.
In my opinion they would be far better with 10% of the Google+ Pages set up if those 10% were active and being used.
Google+ Pages need a big shake up, remove any Google+ Pages that have been inactive for 3 months or more, incorporate a better verification system and provide vanity URL’s for the Pages that are active and verified.
