Sainsbury's Christmas Advert 2011 With Jamie Oliver Happy go lucky me

Update: Come and see my list of Top 10 Christmas Adverts 2011 and let us know what you think. – More ยป

This is the one I have been waiting for, Jamie Oliver’s last Sainsbury’s Christmas Advert.

I’ve no idea why a lot of people never used to like Jamie Oliver, I’ve always liked him. It’s nice that in recent years with all the good he has done that he has even turned the views around of most who didn’t.

The 2011 Sainsburys Christmas Advert which was launched this evening, was filmed in Adelphi theatre and features Jamie cooking a traditional Christmas dinner for the cast of a pantomime.

It wasn’t quite as I expected, I thought seeing as it is the last Sainsbury’s Christmas Advert from Jamie Oliver we would get a good old fashioned sentimental ad, instead they opted for a good old fashioned jovial advert by using an old Paul Evans classic Happy go lucky me and pull it of nicely.

And here is a message from Jamie Oliver talking about his last Sainsbury’s Christmas Advert

And to top it all the Sainsburys Panto Horse Antics

Why is the Menai Bridge on The Sainsbury’s advert.. theres not one near here for miles?

    • T J on said:

Probably because it is the panto cast travelling from all around the UK to get there for the meal.

It might be a Paul Evans classic, but it’s Our George singing it! Love you, Mr. Formby!

    • Mozzie on said:

Not sure that it is George Formby singing on this

I was wrong! It is George but rather oder than I remember ( oops- gave my age away! )

That’s not our George, voice is too deep and the old banjo is not fast enough for him…good advert though!!

I’ve heard that when George recorded this, his last recording, his voice was getting deep so the recording company speeded it up a bit to raise his tone

I think it was Alan Randall, a George formby impersonator

I took part in the Sainsburys survey regarding this advert, and I am sorry to say I find the end product very disappointing. Where are all the big TV personalities as recommended? Where Christopher Biggins as the Dame? Louis Walsh as Buttons? Brian Blessed as Captain Hook? Alan Carr as Widow Twanky? Bruce Forsyth? Ronnie Corbett? etc etc etc… Where is all the delicious foods, Cherry filled Xmas pud? etc…. yes you see it briefly all laid out on the table but it could be from any super market chain, it needs to be more enticing to Sainsburys!! Where is the fab sing-a-long music that we all recognise and love? Yes that music is catchy but it does not capture the essence of Christmas or go with the food, it is more like a sea-side, ice-cream and sandwiches song.
Sorry but it appears to be very low budget in comparison with M&S and Waitrose. Hopefully this is only my opinion but I for one am not impressed, we told you what we want and you have let us down. :-(

Great add. great song make it the Christmas number one! One in the eye for X factor etc.

im afraid i find it all rather iceland-esque. the whole christmas feast has been done before and in a very similar way. I’m surprised no one has brought that up yet. Also, they’ve clearly given jamie a bit of a makeover and yes, I’m watching it on a smaller screen than most but it took me time to recognise the company behind the advert.. i think this is a seriously poor attempt and to be honest, didn’t require much creativity in idea. Disappointing.

Yes it IS our George. Apparently, in 1960 and just before he died, he walked into the PYE recording studios and made this recording

I have been waiting for the advert to come on the television, as I was stopped by one of your men, on the Sychnant Pass. They were filming the horse at the time – - brill – - nice to see things being done in NORTH WALES – as it always seems to be London or Cardiff !! Thank you very much – great

Is the first scenery shot that of Sychnant Pass between Penmaenmawr & Conwy? Looks like it to me

    • Jane on said:

Yes, it is of the Sychnant Pass my 11 year old son recognised it, we had to pause and replay back to be convinced, but he was right !
