What came first the V1 SEO number plate or the v1seo.co.uk website?

Someone asked me the other day about my V1 SEO number plate, so I explained to them it was just an advertising gimmick for my website http://www.v1seo.co.uk

They then asked which came first the number plate or the website?

To be honest it was a bit of both, I was getting a new car and came up with the idea of getting an SEO related number plate so that when I was visiting any local business centres it would be a bit eye catching to any small business owners who had any knowledge of SEO.

This then gave me the idea of tying the plate up with a website and having a windscreen banner with the plate URL displayed on it www.v1seo.co.uk

I had a search on the DVLA website, decided the plate had to be a number 1 so searched for all the plates with *1 SEO and decided V1 SEO was the most eye catching of all of them.

I then quickly did a domain search found www.v1seo.co.uk was available so registered it there and then.

With the domain registered I then had to decide whether to spend the £750 on the number plate but put this off for a few months.

It was probably about 3 months later and after a particularly good week of AdSense earnings that I decided to go for it and spend some of my earnings on the number plate.

I still didn’t have the new car so had to wait, but about 4 months later the new car arrived and I got the dealer to put the V1 SEO plate on it from new.

So in answer to the question, the idea of the number plate came first, but I registered and put a site on www.v1seo.co.uk at least 3 months before actually buying the V1 SEO number plate, which took another 4 months before going on the car (VW Polo 1.4 SE for anyone interested).

  1. Do you know what would be good on the numberplate…. VCard QR codes… I’m putting them everywhere… invoices, van, stationary, adverts etc

I personally don’t like QR codes unless they are being used on billboards or when your out and about. If you have a short memerorable URL I would rather use that instead unless your using the QR code to drive people to an offer or specific internal page on your site.

I think using them on stationary etc. will be outdated within 12 months as something far better will be along.

I invented someting (in my mind) years ago which I am amazed isn’t out yet, I even created a domain for it, but never followed it up.

Basically a small device size of a pen or stylus that converted text on a page, poster, book, whatever in to a hyperlink, basically a cross between a barcode reader and a mouse but it opened hyperlinks direct.

I called it Linkpen and the idea behind it was you could build URL’s in to pens and then just use SKU numbers everywhere for specific pages products

An example is, you could have an Amazon Link Pen, the url http//www.amazon.co.uk/ was already built in to the pen and every product on amazon has a unique id number
You then just roll the pen over a number (or text) and it reads it, converts it to http//www.amazon.co.uk/uniquenumber/ and opens the link.

It would be a brilliant way of combining physical catalogues/papers/business cards etc. with online.
basically you could sit browsing through a catalogue paper or whatever with a pen in your hand and just rub the pen over a section of the catalogue to read more info online.

Once mass produced and as cheap as biros, small businesses could give them away with brochures/catalogues with their URL’s preloaded in to them.

Like I said, amazed it isn’t already out there, I even had a working demo of it set up once on http://www.linkpen.co.uk (content has all changed now, but I’m tempted to get it set back up again one day and try and demonstrate it to the right people)
